Blessed Carlo Acutis, born on May 3, 1991, in London, England, and later raised in Italy, is a remarkable figure in the Roman Catholic Church who lived a short but spiritually profound life. He passed away on October 12, 2006, at the age of 15 due to leukemia. Carlo Acutis was beatified on October 10, 2020, by the Catholic Church, a significant step toward potential canonization as a saint.
Carlo is best known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist, which is the central sacrament of the Catholic faith, and for his extraordinary computer skills. He used his talents to create a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles worldwide, intending to share his faith with others and make the knowledge of these miracles more accessible.
Blessed Carlo Acutis' life and actions are considered an inspiration to young Catholics, as he embraced modern technology and digital media to promote faith and spirituality. His beatification has drawn attention to the potential sanctity within the younger generation and the importance of integrating faith with contemporary life.
"Eucharistic miracles are God's extraordinary interventions, which are meant to confirm the faith in the presence of the body and blood of the Lord in the Eucharist. We know the Catholic teaching on the real presence. With the words of consecration: "This is my body," "This is my blood," the substance of bread becomes the body of Christ and the substance of wine His blood. This marvelous change is called transubstantiation, that is to say, the passage of substance. There remain only the appearance or species of the bread and wine, which, using a philosophical term, are called accidents. In other words, only the dimensions, color, taste, smell and even the nutritive capacity remain. But the substance, or the true reality, does not remain, for it has become the body and blood of the Lord."
-Rev. Roberto Coggi, O.P.
